Another hot summery color palette, spicy and tropical it is reminiscent of hot jungle flowers and palm trees.
Marzipan is an original handmade jewellery company based in Cape Town.
Inspired by colour, texture, craft, trends, history, life and humour, the brand redefines the concept of costume jewellery. Each piece is made with passion and worn with love.
Marzipan, don’t eat it
“…she dreams of dancing on jewels by night…”
Sisters in law Shelley and Karyn Walters started Marzipan one rainy Cape Town winter in 2002. It was their dream to combine their talents in fashion and marketing to create a range of locally produced costume jewellery that was affordable but still had an original and precious handmade feel.
A decade later and Marzipan has evolved into a style that can be described as fun, bold, edgy and eclectic. The brand is distinctive in its daring yet harmonious use of colour and materials. There is an allure in the unusual and unexpected blend of contrasting elements in their designs.
Veronica Tom joined them in 2005 as Beader Extraordinaire. She is a talented in every respect and is an integral part of Marzipan.
Recently they have been working with community projects in South Africa sourcing locally made beads and handcrafted items such as felt and re-cycled plastic flowers for their ‘Handmade Collections.’ The range focuses much more on the traditional arts of crochet and appliqué.
Marzipan is exported to New York, London, Rome, Frankfurt and Vienna. It is also available across South Africa.
Marzipan is made with passion and worn with love the world over.
This is a natural, earthy collection that we have injected with some of Summers electric brights.
The naming of each new little collection is a very serious affair as the names have to fit exactly and describe the pieces so that it evokes an image or something like that. With this one we really struggled. It reminds us so much of Greece and the beautiful, stark white washed villages perched high above
Spring / Summer 2013 has blue written all over it. From the deepest tone of ultramarine to pale duck-egg, all shades are in. We have combined them altogether and the effect is calming. We have it called it Marine because it reminds us of the undulating motion of the sea with it’s myriad of tones
We originally named this collection after Frida Kahlo but then a friend and customer who was viewing the new Summer ranges said that it reminded him of something familiar. And it struck me that it too reminded me of something from the past. It was those adorable Russian dolls with their beautiful vivid colors and
The colors and tones of an African Desert sunset are what inspired these pieces. The gold glint of a setting sun reflecting off far off buildings combine with deep red fade and dry sandy tones of earth and stone.
Carnival is our own interpretation for Summer 13, it’s a transition collection from Winter’s floral inspired patterns into Summer’s trend of floral and prints but with a twist of carnival fun.
One of Spring Summer 13′s boldest color trends are the primary colors. On their own or mixed up together to look like a modern artist’s color palette, the primaries are primary! We kick started our Betty Boo collection this Spring with Apple, a fresh look at one of Summers juiciest hues.
Like their counterpart, the Hard Rock Bracelets, these necklaces are uniquely individual and each design is dictated by the shape and color of the rough semi precious stones. You will never get the same necklace twice and that is what makes them special. As always, please email me for further info. karyn@marzipan.co.za
This little collection of bracelets are made with mostly Semi Precious stones and a sprinkling of a few special beads in between. Each piece is unique and can’t be repeated exactly as the nature of the organic shapes of the stones dictate each design in shape and color. For more information on prices and what’s
We have already created a range around the theme of pastel, we’ve done pastel pearls, organic pastel and now we have globe trekker pastel. The Bombay Belle is the India inspired counterpart to the Pastel Princess of the West. Inspired by the print and textures of India we combined this with Summers hottest color palette.
Following on from our Indian inspired collections, we trekked in our imaginations to the Red city of Jaipur for the inspiration of this little collection. Although Jaipur is commonly known as the Pink cit,y it is now also recognized as the Red city as many of the palaces and buildings in the city have the
Jaisalmer is a hot, beautiful and dry northern desert city in India. It’s part of Rajasthan and a popular destination for travelers. Our latest collections are inspired by India as we have recently acquired some very beautiful Kashmir beads from there so it seemed quite apt to name the collections after some of the famed
We live by the coast so we are always influenced by the the moods and cycles of the sea, whether we are conscious of it or not. Probably and mostly it is a sub-conscious thing as I only notice the difference when I am not near it. But in this little collection which will grow
This collection is another take on our already existing smokey romantic black look. We just took the emphasis from sheer and romantic into earthy woodsmoke tones.
Navy and shades of deep blue is another key trending colour for Winter 2012/13 and we chose to blend it with shades of turquoise and purple and some earthy tribal details.
All shades of pink are seen in Winter 2012/13 seasons trends. We chose to apply a rustic earthy feel to our chosen shade of pink and the look bridges over into the tribal trends and turns what is normally a girly colour into something a bit different.
The rich tones of purple are back and combine again with velvety burgundy colors, think red wine and berries. In fact any and all tones and shades of purples through to the rustic pinks are one of this seasons hottest shades.
The smokin hot and fiery tones of orange and red have not left the runway this Winter. Beautifully rich silk and gem tones of burnt orange, red, mustard are still dominant and add some energy and passion into Winter 2012/13
The traditional winter color is back but it is infused with the romance of lace and sheer fabrics. We took our basic blacks and introduced smokey tones and subtle English rose printed beads in blacks and greys to soften the seriousness of the basic black look.
The global nomad is by far one of our most favorite trends that we have seen and it blends in well with our passion for eclecticism. The overall influences are ethnic prints, patterns and textures that are sourced far and wide in ancient cities and forgotten tribes. Think camels and caravans, gypsies and souks and
nspired by the natural tones and hues of stone, rock and sand, this little collection has become a classic in our range. We incorporate elements of pottery, coconut and faux pearl with the matt finish of natural wood that makes a subtle overall earthy effect.
This is the Magpie collection, its really just the name of this particular style of necklace which is mostly organic components, shell, stone, glass with the odd bead for accent and or color.
We have been designing and creating these Handmade Crochet necklaces for a while now and they are now officially being labelled by myself as part of our classical collection. Not because they are classical in a classical sense but they are becoming a trademark of Marzipan and we also never ever want to get rid
The original township choker was inspired by the bright and colorful fusion of township trends. It’s essence is also not one of fancy bead work but rather an eclectic mix of bright fun and predominantly plastic beads. A random shell and seed pod or gem is thrown into the mix just to ensure that little
This range is our most successful, it is vibrant and bold and almost sings with it’s spectrum of vivid colors.
This collection is inspired by Summer 2012′s most energetic, inspiring and vital colour palettes. The key colours that define the Havana range are Tangerine orange and the an accent of the soothing blue green colour that Pantone calls Cockatoo. Combined with plenty of warm reds and hints of green we were transported to the hot
Another hot summery color palette, spicy and tropical it is reminiscent of hot jungle flowers and palm trees.
An earthy range for earthy temperaments. We have taken the most subtlest of nudes and blended them with the earthy tones of natural. We mix and match unpolished wood beads with crystal, hand rolled clay, shell and the odd accent of an unpolished semi-precious stone.
China Girl is a direct inspiration from that beautiful and timeless oriental palette of black and white with a strong accent of deep red. This little collection is proving to be as timeless as the Orient itself, (..thats a stretch really..) but our customers love it and it is re-ordered time and time again.
Nautical is another one of those classic themes that live to tell. Ever since Coco Chanel wore the French Sailor Shirt and turned it into a fashion classic, nautical lived and breathed. And no one can do nautical quite like Ralph Lauren, he makes me want to stow away on a boat. So we have
This is a classic colour combination that works well for both daytime and evening. It works comfortably with denim whether you are stepping out to lunch or dinner and adds a sparkle to any classic Navy ensemble.
